but even if the rain lets up in the summer the water can clear up quite quickly so If you are planning a trip on a whim or just a day trip from PC I'd call ahead and see what the weather report is. The diving is best between December and May when the rain dissipates but the wind in the winter months can stir up sediment so visibility can be varied. Lots of lion fish, spotted drums, and angle fish will be prevalent on your dives but you can see huge eagle rays, sting rays, and barracudas.there was even an 8' hammer head shark sited on one of our dives.of course not by me.damnit. There is a good amount of sea life (though biodiversity, size and numbers of fish have dwindled in panama in recent years.) But the soft corals and sponges are fantastic and the shallow walls around Drakes Island and the airplane wreck are really interesting to explore. The diving around Portobelo is a bit of gem and I wasn't expecting it at all. Panama's scuba sites are limited with a wealth of sites outlawed to dive in San Blas you've really only got Bocas and Portobelo on the caribbean side. He has a ton of experience in the area and knows which sites will be better on which days. I had a great time diving with Ray at Golden Frog.
